Protecting Our Second Amendment
As a supporter of our Second Amendment and of the God-given rights it protects, I am greatly troubled by the continued assault on law-abiding gun owners and the efforts to vilify them by Democrats in Congress. Rest assured, as a member of the Congressional Second Amendment Caucus, I will continue to defend all citizens' constitutional rights from far-Left policies. To that end, below are several pieces of legislation I have supported in the 117th Congress to protect and expand Americans' Second Amendment rights:
H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act allows a qualified individual to carry a concealed handgun into or possess a concealed handgun in another state that allows individuals to carry concealed firearms.
H.R. 95, the Hearing Protection Act removes suppressors from the definition of firearms for purposes of the National Firearms Act.
H.R. 1534, the Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act prohibits the President and the Secretary of Health and Human Services from declaring certain emergencies or disasters for the purpose of imposing gun control.
H.R. 1210, the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) Reform Act amends Title 18, United States Code, to improve the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act and provisions relating to the carrying of concealed weapons by law enforcement officers.
H.R. 6247, the PROTECT the Second Amendment Act ensures that residents of covered federally-assisted rental housing may lawfully possess firearms.
H.R. 6970, the Firearm Industry Non-Discrimination Act prohibits the Federal government from entering into contracts with an entity that discriminates against firearm or ammunition industries.
H.R. 6945, the No Retaining Every Gun In a System That Restricts Your Rights Act orders the ATF to delete all existing firearm transaction records and mandates licensed federal gun sellers to destroy their firearm transaction records if they go out of business.
In addition to cosponsoring these bills, I have also joined my colleagues in writing several letters to the President and Administration officials opposing actions that would infringe on the rights of law-abiding citizens:
Expressed my concerns to Senate Leadership regarding the nomination of anti-Second Amendment advocate, David Chipman, to lead the ATF
Wrote to the Attorney General opposing a proposed rule that would create overbearing marking requirements for manufacturers and give pre-approval authorization of new firearm designs to the Director of the ATF
Submitted comments along with the rest of the Second Amendment Caucus to the Attorney General highlighting our serious issues with the ATF's proposed “objective factors” for determining when a pistol with a stabilizing brace qualifies as a short-barrel rifle
Demanded the President reject the UN's Arms Trade Treaty, which would subject American citizens' right to keep and bear arms to international oversight and interference
Questioned the ATF for its attempt to restrict the ability of law-abiding Americans to use suppressors on firearms through its rejection of hundreds of Form 1 applications
